Typical Sunday in Village
Just to continue painting the picture of my life as a volunteer in Burkina Faso, here’s a list of things I usually do on a Sunday when there’s no classes.
• Study French (I’m not content at a “get by” level, so I’ll continue until I’m fluent)
• Wash clothes (in buckets by hand)
• Go shopping for food and supplies (bike 5 kms to outdoor market)
• Open...

Day and Night: Ouagadougou
As a Peace Corps volunteer in Burkina Faso, I get 4 days a month to dip out of my post and hit up my regional capital. These 4 days are given to us volunteers so that we don’t go insane and also to get much needed errands done. My regional capital is Ouagadougou which just happens to be the capital of Burkina Faso. Lucky me. During the days of these visits, I re-up on meds, check my mail, and do...

American Culture vs. West African Culture
THIS MORNING
West African: What time are you doing your Excel class today? American: We moved it to 3 o’clock because the electricity was out all morning. West African: Can I come? American: Of course. West African: Ok. I’m coming. American: Ok. See you there.
AROUND 4PM
The American’s phone rings.
American: Hello? West African: Hi. Where are you? American: I’m in...

Le Facebook et Barack Obama Quoi
I visited Ouaga this past weekend to welcome the new PCRV and to run much needed errands such as getting money at the bank. Good times were had. I ate delicious Indian food, a steak, a couple cheeseburgers, etc. Us Peace Corps volunteers really think and talk about food a lot if you didn’t notice. But anyways, on the bus ride back to post, I noticed a couple funny things and unfortunately my...

The Real Peace Corps
What the title says yo. Recommended reading for everyone.
whereintheworldisflick:
This posting is from another PCV’s blog who is currently serving in Ethiopia. His name is Michael, and though I have never met him, he has perfectly captured what being a volunteer in Africa is like. I feel like he was written the exact words I have thought. Please go and check out the blog Waid’s World, not to...

Peace Corps or Posh Corps?
Or just Peace Corps Response + a little luck? Here’s a sample of what my meals have been looking like since I got to post a couple weeks ago.
1st course
2nd course
3rd course - Not pictured because there wasn’t any today, but in the past 2 weeks we’ve had flan (regular and chocolate), crepes multiple times, fruit salad multiple time, etc.
These nuns are too awesome.

Just The Beginning
I took these pics of the 1st classes I observed a week ago. It’s only been a week, but a ton of changes have already been made. I hope to get this IT program into top shape by the time the next school year begins. Biggest goal I’ve had in a while that I really plan to accomplish.
Regarding this last pic, a couple of days ago I trained my counter-part (the guy in the picture) how...
